Cornwall Park is famous for its beautiful landscape design and large trees that shelter. The park is centered on a volcano that has been dormant, which is known by the name of One Tree Hill. Cornwall Park name is taken from the name of the Duck and Duchess of Cornwall and York.
During the time of his visit to Australia and New Zealand in 1901, Sir John Logan Campbell was asked to become the Mayor of Auckland. At that time, he presented a park to the citizens of New Zealand, which became known as Cornwall Park today.
The park was officially opened in August 1903. Cornwall Park was designed by a young landscape architect from New Zealand studying in the United States named Austin Strong.

The 33 meter tall obelisk made as a symbol of achievement and a sense of awe at the character of Maori who are the original inhabitants of the land of New Zealand.
